Phoenix X (2) Head & Shoulders (2004)
The exhibition, ’Carbon Dating 2004 ’, dealt with the basic properties of both diamonds and charcoal and their common element, carbon. Whilst charcoal is the product of destruction and signifies the end of time, diamonds are the product of the refinement of millennia and represent a sense of timelessness or immortality. Visually apparent as opposites, they are in fact at either end of the same process of evolution. The anonymity of the body casts related to destruction and signified the end of time.
This particular body casting equated to a sense of immortality and timelessness for the client of their partner.
